Miss Hirst

Assistant Head and Year 6 class teacher with responsibility for Year 6, pupil premium, Literacy and tutors.

I have six years teaching experience within Key Stage Two with the majority of my experience being in Year 6. Before entering management, I completed NPQML which gave me the skills, knowledge and confidence to lead a team. As Year Six leader, I am responsible for the standards of teaching and learning and progress of pupils. This role involves carrying out performance management interviews with staff; conducting formal classroom observations and drop ins; conduction learning walks, book and planning scrutiny; delivering pupil progress meetings and coordinating and monitoring the impact of interventions and additional out of school learning opportunities.

As part of my current management role, I work closely with a team of four tutors to identify children in need of extra tuition to ensure they make appropriate progress before moving into a new year group. I monitor the impact of pupil premium intervention by tracking children’s progress and ensuring they have access to the necessary support available.

I have been Literacy Lead for four years. This role has involved implementing the new curriculum, mentoring new staff and leading whole school training. I have also delivered training to parents in reading and organised stay and read session to strengthen parent school links. For the past three years, I have been a KS2 external writing moderator. This role involves moderating Year Six writing at several schools across Bolton to check the validity of teacher assessment for writing at KS2.

I consider my strengths to be ensuring good progress is made between KS1 and KS2 by implementing and reviewing effective intervention support throughout KS2.
